Dual Fuel Technology
Natural gas as marine fuel offers an environment friendly solution for four-stroke engines without sacrificing profitability. Our dual-fuel engines run on both gas and diesel, so customers get all the benefits of gas plus added flexibility and built-in redundancy. Liquid fuels
Running on liquid fuel, our 51/60DF can be operated with MGO, MDO, and heavy fuel oil with a viscosity of up to 700 mm2/s (cSt) at 50°C. MAN's 51/60DF liquid fuel mode complies with IMO Tier II NOx emissions limits.
Gaseous Fuels
When it comes to the enviroment, why meet eco-limits when it's possible to stay far below them? Running on natural gas, our 51/60DF undercuts IMO Tier II levels by a mile. In fact, in gaseous fuel mode, it even fufills the strict IMO Tier III NOx limits prescribed for Emissions Control Areas (ECAs), without any exhaust gas aftertreatments.
Micropilot Ignition
Building on this firm basis for low emissions, the 51/60DF employs the latest “micropilot” gas ignition technology. The gaseous fuel is ignited by injection of a distillate pilot fuel representing less than 1% of the quantity of liquid fuel needed to achieve the 51/60DF’s full rated output in its liquid fuel back-up mode.
Fuel Sharing
Our innovative Fuel Sharing feature is optional on the 51/60DF. Mixtures of Gas and HFO can be simultaneously burned in a single engine. This feature offers total fuel flexibility for LNG Carrier operators.
