A mooring rope is a special length of cable used to connect the ship to the dock or buoy to ensure the safety of the ship when docked.
The primary role of the mooring rope is to provide elasticity to low-tensile cables, such as high-modulus synthetic cables or wire ropes, thereby reducing peak load and extending service life. By extending to absorb small movements of the ship, such as those caused by surges or waves, the mooring tail frees the main line from excessive stress.
Characteristics and uses of mooring rope:
Scope of application: Mooring ropes are suitable for mooring, STS (ship-to-ship) and towing operations. It can also be used on tourist ships, bulk carriers and container ships.
Length options: Oil tankers, LNG and LPG vessels typically use a standard length of 11 meters or 22 meters of mooring rope tail. The 22 metre long nylon cable tail is recommended for its better ability to absorb waves, surges and shock loads.
Construction: Each mooring rope end usually has two plug-in lute heads, with standard lengths of 1.8 m (6 ft) and 0.9 m (3 ft).
Material: The tail of the mooring rope is made of nylon fiber, which is highly elastic and reduces the axial stress applied to the main cable.
The choice of mooring rope should take into account the type of ship, environmental conditions and use needs to ensure safe and reliable mooring operation.
