What Is A Socket Weld Flange?

Socket welding flange refers to the pipe end inserted into the flange ring ladder, welded in the pipe end and the outer flange. It comes in two types with and without a neck. The socket welding flange with neck has good rigidity, small welding deformation and good sealing property, and can be used in situations where the pressure is 1.0~10.0MPa. The Type B flange for the container is also a socket welding flange, which is used for occasions with high sealing requirements.

Advantages:

• High reliability: The connection mode of the socket welding flange is simple, and there is no heat affected zone of welding, so the leakage and other problems caused by thermal deformation are reduced.

Cons:

• Limited bearing capacity: Due to its structural characteristics, the bearing capacity of the socket welding flange is relatively small, and it cannot withstand large pressure or vibration.

• High sealing performance requirements: In order to ensure the tightness, it is necessary to use high-quality sealing materials and installation technology, otherwise it is easy to leak.

• Maintenance inconvenience: Once there is a leak and other problems, maintenance is more troublesome, may need to disassemble the entire pipeline system.

• Limited scope of application: For large pipes and thick wall pipes, socket welding flanges may not be suitable.
