What Is A Neck Butt Weld Flange?
Neck butt welded flange is a butt welded type flange with a conical neck that is butt welded to a barrel or pipe. Due to the transition structure of conical neck and butt welded connection, the strength and stiffness of the flange are enhanced, and the sealing performance is better than that of the flat welded flange.
Neck butt welded flanges usually have a neck design with a high hub, which is designed to transfer the pressure of the pipe, thereby reducing the high stress concentration of the flange base. Neck butt welding flange is an important part of connecting pipelines, its advantages and disadvantages are as follows:
Advantages:
- Compact structure, occupy less space, can reduce the size and weight of the equipment, reduce the cost.
- With high stiffness and strength, it can withstand high pressure, high temperature or vibration and other loads.
- Suitable for high temperature, high pressure or high sealing requirements, such as petroleum, chemical, electric power and other fields.
- Compared with the flat welding flange, the sealing surface of the butt welding flange is various, and can be selected according to the need to adapt to different media and pressure requirements.
Cons:
- The manufacturing cost of butt welded flange is high, the production cycle is long, and it needs to go through forging, heat treatment and other processes.
- In some cases with large diameters and low pressure, the application of butt welded flanges is limited because of its relatively high weight and cost.
- Compared with the flat welded flange, the installation and positioning of the butt welded flange is more difficult, and it needs to be adjusted and fixed accurately during the welding process.
