What Is Multi-Stage Pump?
Multistage pump is a kind of centrifugal pump, which is characterized by high head, low flow, compact structure and reliable use.
The basic structure of multistage pump includes water inlet section, water outlet section, middle section, tail cover, impeller, pump body, pump shaft, bearing, sealing ring, stuffing box and other components. The multistage pump is combined by a tie rod, and each impeller can obtain a higher head.
The working principle of the multistage pump is to use the principle of centrifugal force to transfer energy to the liquid through the high-speed rotation of the impeller, so that the liquid can obtain higher pressure and flow rate. The impeller of a multistage pump is usually backbent to improve efficiency. As the impeller rotates, the liquid is sucked in and flows in the direction of the blade of the impeller, and then thrown out. At the exit of the impeller, the pressure and velocity of the liquid are increased. In the impeller of the pump at all levels, the liquid is continuously sucked, accelerated and discharged, thus obtaining higher head. Multistage pumps usually adopt a segmented structure, with various levels of impellers connected in series to obtain higher head. The efficiency of the multistage pump is higher, but it requires precise assembly and adjustment to ensure uniform clearance between the impeller.
Multistage pumps are widely used on ships, such as oil tankers, chemical ships, liquefied gas ships and other ships, which need to use multistage pumps to transport liquids with high viscosity and high head. In addition, on some special purpose vessels, such as offshore oil exploration vessels and Marine scientific research vessels, multistage pumps may also be used to meet special needs.
