1. SCAC cooling system
Separate Circuit After-Cooler: C18, C32, 3500 series, C280 all adopt this system. The following is the schematic diagram of the C32 with heat exchanger cooling system, which is often used in the seawater or central cooling system of the main propulsion engine or the main generator set.
A separate loop aftercooler (SCAC), that is, a water source other than liner water (JW), provides cooling water. It is used to provide cooler water, further reducing the intake manifold temperature.
The following is the schematic diagram of SCAC outboard cooler cooling system, which is commonly used in the outboard sea water cooling system of the main propulsion engine and the main generator set.
The picture below shows the remote horizontal cooling water tank, which is usually used where the offshore platform is not convenient to provide cooling water.
2. SWAC cooling system
Seawater After-cooler: The seawater after-cooler (or intercooler) is cooled directly by seawater. According to the application of the project, the models that can be configured with this kind of cooler are: C4.4, C7.1, C9.3, C18, C32.
An engine equipped with seawater aftercooling uses untreated seawater on the side of the aftercooler tube for aftercooling, which results in a lower inlet manifold temperature than fresh water aftercooling using a separate jacket water line. This lower inlet manifold temperature allows the engine with seawater aftercooling to have a higher nominal power than the engine with jacket water cooling.
The engine cooling system plays a very important role in the powertrain, and the stable and efficient operation of the engine cannot be separated from the cooling system.
