What Are The Types of Bulk Carriers
Bulk carrier ships are designed to transport loose dry bulk materials, such as coal, iron ore, and grain. There are several types of bulk carrier ships, including:
Capesize ships: These are the largest bulk carrier ships, with a capacity of up to 180,000 deadweight tons (DWT). They are used to transport coal, iron ore, and other bulky goods over long distances.
Panamax ships: These ships have a maximum size that can pass through the Panama Canal locks. They usually have a capacity of around 80,000 DWT and are used for shorter trade routes, such as between Asia and Europe.
Handymax ships: These ships have a capacity of up to 50,000 DWT and are used for shorter trade routes or for smaller loads that need to be transported over longer distances.
Handysize ships: These ships have a capacity of up to 45,000 DWT and are used for transporting coal, iron ore, and other bulky goods on shorter trade routes.
Supramax ships: These ships have a capacity of around 60,000 DWT and are used for transporting bulk goods on medium-length trade routes.
All of these bulk carrier ships are designed to be efficient and cost-effective in terms of transporting large amounts of bulk materials. The different sizes and types of bulk carrier ships allow for flexibility in terms of meeting different shipping needs and demands.
